BLACK WATER

BLACK WATER (GENEPIL’S PARADE) is an unused soundtrack, originally commissioned by Emanuel Gat Dance and Théâtre National de Chaillot for DÉFILÉ, an exhibition in motion showcasing garments by Thomas Bradley.

Genepil was the last queen of Mongolia. She was taken from her family at night to become the new trophy wife of the ruler of the Bogd Khaganate of Mongolia, the almost blind and severely ill 8th Jebtsundamba Khutuktu. On April 17, 1924, less than a year after the wedding, the Bogd Khan died and the monarchy was abolished. In Stalin’s devastating attempt to rid the country of all remnants of the old regime and the systematic destruction of Mongolian culture, Queen Genepil was arrested and executed in 1938 while she was five months pregnant.
