MICHAEL LOEHR

Michael Loehr is a contemporary dancer who has collaborated with numerous international choreographers and dance companies. A recipient of the Herbert von Karajan Prize for outstanding artistic achievements, he thrives on the challenge of adapting to diverse environments and approaches. Eschewing attachment to a specific style, his movement is characterized by a focus on clarity and a playful embrace of the awkward.
He has a strong interest in flat hierarchies, autonomous choreographic structures, and a process driven by discovery rather than execution. Creative skills are channeled into his own choreographies, a diverse range of projects where he serves as choreographic assistant or stager, and collaborations in dance works that require performers to have an analytical eye to engage and contribute to the choreography.
With 20 years of experience, Michael teaches contemporary dance classes and workshops for both professional dancers and beginners. His approach blends concepts from sports science with the distinctive qualities of contemporary dance, aiming to enhance both energy efficiency and impact. With a deep belief in the value of sharing knowledge and ideas, he considers teaching an integral part of his artistic practice.
