On a red carpet serving as a sensual arena, Gat orchestrates a striking reversal: the sacrificial ritual transforms into a burning, romantic game of pursuit, where salsa replaces the pagan dances. Three couples intertwine and sway in perfect harmony, but a keen eye quickly uncovers the illusion: there are only five performers—three women and two men—who seamlessly exchange partners in an endless, breathtaking display of virtuosity.
Gat offers a highly original and personal interpretation of Stravinsky’s masterpiece. At the center of the stage, on a red carpet, three couples move to the rhythm of salsa: the dancers spin and sway, guided by the expert lead of their partners, whom they seamlessly and fluidly exchange. But upon closer observation, it becomes clear that there aren’t three couples, but rather three female dancers and two male dancers. The illusion is flawless, as the rapid partner changes and movements unfold with astonishing ease.
