At Bielefeld Theater, the rarely performed four-part percussion composition provides the rhythmic foundation for a nearly two-hour dance production, unparalleled on German stages. [...] Never before has Gregor Zöllig challenged his ensemble so intensely, and never have they proven themselves so versatile.
Acclaimed dance interpretations set to rhythmic minimalism. [...] With an extraordinary dance event, the Bielefeld Theater Ballet caused a sensation at its premiere on Saturday evening. [...] Thunderous applause celebrated this unique world premiere, once again proving that artistically ambitious dance theater has a real place in this region.
A captivating dance evening until the very last minute, highlighting the rich expressive range of the Bielefeld ensemble. A feat of strength by many, a bold and fruitful symbiosis. Thunderous applause at the premiere reinforces the impression that the people of Bielefeld have now truly embraced their dance ensemble.
Resident choreographer Gregor Zöllig, together with three colleagues, has taken on the challenge of translating Steve Reich's groundbreaking minimalist composition Drumming into dance. [...] With ease and plenty of humor, Zöllig invites the audience into a world of movement—like a child gradually discovering its motor skills.
Too many cooks spoil the broth—but four choreographers don’t necessarily ruin a dance evening. On the contrary, it was precisely the variety of approaches that made the international project of Tanztheater Bielefeld, set to the musical foundation of Steve Reich’s Drumming, a true delight. The world premiere on Saturday at the Stadttheater was met with cheers and bravos.
