ZAIK was founded in 2014 with the objective of strengthening and promoting the dance scene in Cologne by connecting spaces, people and ideas to facilitate exchange.
The institution’s resources include possibilities for production, artistic development, research, daily training for professional dancers and working residencies. Furthermore ZAIK’s monthly Open Sessions encourage the exchange between the local urban and contemporary dance scene.
Different formats like Dancing Donnerstag or Studio Showings allow the public to join the dance floor and to get an insight into ZAIK’s diverse projects. In addition to the activities in Quartier am Hafen, the Orangerie / Theater im Volksgarten offers a broad performance program including works by Cologne’s collective MichaelDouglas, national as well as international guests, the young choreographers program Made in Köln and the yearly Katalyst Festival.
