Tanzhaus NRW opened in 1998 in a 4,000 square metre former tram depot. It is an internationally recognised performance venue with around 200 changing annual events on two stages, an acclaimed training centre with an average of 350 courses and workshops per week in eight studios, a centre for dance with and for children and youths as well as a production centre for professional artists.
From contemporary dance via multimedia performances to performing art Tanzhaus NRW presents the whole international spectrum of contemporary dance in the context of festivals, guest performances, theme series and co-productions. Renowned contemporary choreographers such as Jérôme Bel, Louise Lecavalier, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Yasmeen Godder and Laurent Chétouane are some of the artists that have recently been invited to show their creations. Tanzhaus NRW supports young dance makers through their platform Now & Next and gives three already established Factory Artists a home to produce their work. Public discussions, open rehearsals, film documentations and introductions prior to the events complement the repertoire.
Another focal point is Tanzhaus NRW’s engagement in bringing dance to young audiences and young audiences towards dance with the extremely successful project Take-off: Junger Tanz. The whole range of activities including the youth company B2B is called Young Tanzhaus.
Moreover, the big team of international dance instructors teach anything from Contemporary Dance to Samba and Power Yoga. The Academy program addresses all generations from age 2 to 75 and offers courses and workshops for amateurs, professionals and everything in between.
