Since more then 25 years Tanz im August offers every summer the best and most innovative dance companies on large and small venues in Berlin. It is widely considered to be one of the most important and influential dance festivals in Europe. 

The festival offers an international range of contemporary dance performances, prestigious companies, innovative choreographers as well as a sense for emerging aesthetics and formats from all over the world. It’s a genuine celebration of contemporary dance, where creativity, collaboration and various forms of thinking choreography can be experimented and practiced. 

The main festival venue is HAU – Hebbel am Ufer known for its progressive productions, but performances, workshops and discussions also take place at various other venues in Berlin. 

Since 2014 Finnish curator Virve Sutinen has been in charge of the festival’s program. Known for her humor and delight in experimentation, she keeps challenging the Berlin audience and pushes the boundaries of what a contemporary dance festival can be.
